Hey, it's me with a coconut!
Being primitive and trying to break it with my own two hands.
Draining the milk into a cup.
Straining the milk through one of my new no-show socks.
Don't worry, it hadn't been on my foot yet.
YAY! Coconutting is fun. Never done THAT before.
Hehe... That's coconut water you've got coming out there. Coconut milk is made by opening the coconut, scraping out the white parts and grating them, and putting them in a bowl of coconut water. You squeeze the white bits over and over in the water with your hands until it gets thicker (like 10-15 mins)...this extracts the fat and nutrients from the inner fruit and now you've got milk :) Also, you can open the nut to get at the fruit by cracking it solidly with the dull side of a large kitchen knife in a circle around it.
ReplyDeleteI learned this while living on a mountain in Costa Rica...pura vida!
